About
Stranger Than Usual is a queer-run media company that tells stories of people in spaces of historical and cultural significance around the world, from war bunkers in Germany to Vancouver’s first morgue.
We aim to tell stories of marginalized people in off-the-beaten-path locations to inspire understanding, compassion and curiosity.
My name is Danelle Cloutier and I’m the creator of this show.
I call myself a queirdo — a queer weirdo, who has been interested in off-the-beaten path locations and horror since I was a kid.
But, I had never seen an explorer like me — one who’s genderfluid and queer.
I’m now an award-winning journalist and audio engineer who has been traveling around the world to these special locations.
I aim to tell stories from a different perspective than the explorers we learned about in elementary history class.
